Five days in Phu Quoc is a very good length for a family trip or a relaxed first visit.
With five days, you can include beach time, snorkeling or island hopping, Hon Thom Cable Car, Aquatopia, Sunset Town, Safari, VinWonders, Grand World and a slower final day. But the order matters a lot.
The best 5-day itinerary depends on where you stay:
- north island: Vinpearl, VinWonders, Safari, Grand World, Ganh Dau
- central Phu Quoc: Duong Dong, Long Beach and nearby areas
- south island: Sunset Town, An Thoi, Khem Beach
- Ong Lang: quiet west/north-leaning beach area, not central Phu Quoc
Below are practical routes I would suggest depending on your hotel area.
Quick answer: best 5-day plan by hotel area
If you stay north, keep the first half of the trip in the north and do the south island as one full day later. If your group likes the sea, make that day a snorkeling or 4 island trip plus Cable Car and Sunset Town. If your children are too young for snorkeling, keep it simpler with Cable Car, Aquatopia Water Park, Sunset Town and fireworks.
If you stay central or south, start with Sunset Town, do the 4 island and Cable Car day early, then use another day for Starfish Beach, Safari, VinWonders and Grand World.
If you like fishing or squid fishing, message me before finalizing the route. I can add it into the itinerary depending on weather, season and your hotel area.
5 days in Phu Quoc if you stay north
Grand World is an easy evening stop for guests staying in the north island area.
This route fits guests staying around Vinpearl Wonderworld, Vinpearl Resort, Ganh Dau, Grand World or the VinWonders/Safari area.
The main idea is simple: do not drive south every day. Enjoy the north first, then group Cable Car, island hopping and Sunset Town into one full south island day.
Day 1: arrival, resort time and Grand World
After landing in Phu Quoc, your driver picks you up at the airport and transfers you to your resort in the north island area.
Since you are already staying in the north, the first day should stay slow and comfortable after the flight.
Spend the afternoon enjoying:
- resort beach
- swimming pool
- quiet family time
- rest after travel
The beach around the Vinpearl and Ganh Dau area is usually calm and family-friendly.
In the evening, go to Grand World for dinner and a relaxed walk. There are restaurants, cafes, canal-style photo spots, public performances and activities for children. It becomes more lively after sunset and works well for families.
If your family prefers something quieter, you can also choose a sunset dinner at the northern tip. On a clear day, from this side of the island you can see toward Cambodia across the water.
Day 2: full day at VinWonders
Use the second day for VinWonders, especially if you stay near Vinpearl.
VinWonders is the biggest theme park in Vietnam and is easiest to enjoy when you do not need a long drive before and after.
Good areas for families include:
- aquarium
- indoor themed zones
- water slides
- kids areas
- fairy tale zones
- family rides
For younger children, the aquarium and indoor zones are often the highlights because they are cooler and less tiring during the hottest part of the day.
Because your resort is nearby, you can return to the hotel if the kids need a nap or rest.
Day 3: Starfish Beach, mangrove basket boat and Safari
A mangrove basket boat stop pairs well with Starfish Beach and Safari on a north island day.
Start early and head to Rach Vem fishing village or the Starfish Beach area.
Morning is better because the water is usually calmer and the area is less busy.
A good route:
- small boat to reach the starfish area properly when conditions are good
- basket boat through the mangrove forest
- local lunch or simple seafood stop
- Vinpearl Safari in the afternoon
Kids usually enjoy the basket boat because it feels peaceful and a little adventurous at the same time.
Vinpearl Safari is the largest semi-wild animal park in Vietnam. The safari bus experience is fun for children because some animals move freely around the vehicle.
In the evening, you can either return to the resort or go down to Duong Dong Night Market if your group still has energy. The night market gives a more local atmosphere with street food, seafood and desserts.
Day 4: snorkeling or Cable Car, Aquatopia and Sunset Town
For a 5-day trip, Cable Car, Aquatopia and Sunset Town can fit into one south island day.
This is the most active and scenic day of the trip.
Because you stay in the north, I would group all the south island highlights into this day instead of going south multiple times.
Option A: snorkeling and 4 island trip if your group likes the sea
- early pickup from the north
- transfer to An Thoi
- speedboat snorkeling or 4 island trip
- lunch or island time depending on the package
- Hon Thom Cable Car
- explore Sunset Town before the shows
- Vui-Fest Bazaar for dinner or snacks
- evening show with fireworks
Option B: Cable Car, Aquatopia and Sunset Town if your children are too young for snorkeling. You can also keep this simple by booking the right Cable Car and attraction tickets first, then adding transport only if you need it.
- early pickup from the north
- Hon Thom Cable Car
- Aquatopia Water Park
- beach or lunch on Hon Thom depending on ticket choice
- return by cable car in the late afternoon
- explore Sunset Town before the shows
- Vui-Fest Bazaar for dinner or snacks
- evening show with fireworks
Sunset Town is most beautiful around late afternoon and evening. The show and fireworks make this day feel special for families and children.
Day 5: relax and airport transfer
Keep the final morning slow.
Have breakfast, enjoy the resort, pack and relax before checkout. Depending on your flight time, your driver transfers you back to the airport.
If your flight is late, you can add a simple stop on the way, but I would not plan another heavy tour on the last day.
This north island itinerary is designed to reduce unnecessary driving and keep the trip comfortable for adults and children.
5 days in Phu Quoc if you stay central or south
Central and south stays make evening seafood dinners and beach bars easier to arrange.
This route works well if you stay in Duong Dong, Long Beach, Sunset Town, An Thoi, Khem Beach or nearby areas.
If you stay central, you have easy access to restaurants, Night Market and many pickup routes. If you stay south, you are close to Sunset Town, Cable Car, Khem Beach and the island hopping departure area.
Day 1: arrival and Sunset Town experience
After airport pickup, go to your hotel for check-in and rest.
Around 4–5 PM, head to Sunset Town.
A good first evening:
- walk around Sunset Town
- visit Vui-Fest Bazaar for food and night market atmosphere
- have dinner nearby
- watch Symphony of the Sea if the schedule fits
- continue with Kiss of the Sea if your group wants the full evening
- enjoy the fireworks at the end of the show
- return to your hotel for the night
This is a strong first-night experience if you arrive early enough and still have energy.
Day 2: snorkeling, Cable Car and water park
Use the second day for the sea and Cable Car.
A good plan:
- morning pickup from hotel
- 4 island speedboat or snorkeling trip until around noon
- island stops depending on weather and package
- Hon Thom Cable Car or pre-booked tickets and attractions
- Aquatopia Water Park and theme park time
- lunch or buffet depending on ticket choice
- late afternoon return by cable car
In the evening, keep it flexible. If you stay central, explore restaurants, spas, beach bars or the Night Market. If you stay south, stay around Sunset Town or Khem Beach.

Day 3: Starfish Beach and east/south island exploring
Ho Quoc Pagoda can be added to an east or south island route if your group likes scenic stops.
Use this day to see a different side of Phu Quoc.
A good route can include:
- Starfish Beach or Rach Vem area in the morning
- local farms or small craft stops if your group likes them
- Fisherman’s Temple
- Ho Quoc Pagoda
- Coconut Prison
- Sao Beach
- Khem Beach
You do not need to do every stop. The exact route should depend on your hotel area and travel style.
For families, I would keep the beach and animal/sea experiences as the main focus and avoid too many short photo stops.
Day 4: Safari, VinWonders and Grand World
Use one full day for the north island.
Morning is best for Safari because the weather is cooler and animals are usually more active.
A full family route:
- Vinpearl Safari in the morning
- lunch
- VinWonders for rides, shows, aquarium and indoor attractions
- Grand World in the evening for dinner and public night atmosphere
If you have young children, consider choosing Safari plus Grand World, or Safari plus a shorter VinWonders visit. A full day with all three can be tiring.
Day 5: The Peak, coffee view and departure
For the final day, keep it simple.
A nice option is The Peak Park in the center of the island for coffee and a panorama view from the mountain, then transfer to the airport.
If your flight is early, skip the extra stop and go straight to the airport.
If your flight is late, you can add a short private car route, a beach stop, massage or local coffee before departure.
5 days with squid fishing
If you want to include squid fishing, I can adjust the itinerary.
Squid fishing works better as an evening experience and should be planned around weather, sea condition and your hotel location.
A possible 5-day route with squid fishing:
Day 1: arrival and Sunset Town
- airport pickup and hotel check-in
- rest at the hotel
- Sunset Town around 4–5 PM
- Vui-Fest Bazaar or dinner nearby
- Kiss of the Sea or other evening show with fireworks
- return to hotel
Day 2: 4 island adventure and Cable Car sunset
- morning pickup
- optional stops such as Pearl Farm or Sim Wine Factory if they fit the route
- speedboat for 4 island snorkeling
- lunch or buffet depending on ticket/package
- Aquatopia and Hon Thom time
- cable car back toward Phu Quoc island
- Kiss Bridge or Sunset Town sunset if timing is good
- dinner in town or near your hotel
Day 3: east coast exploring and squid fishing
- Starfish Beach or Rach Vem in the morning
- local stops such as pepper farm, bee farm or other small attractions if your group likes them
- Fisherman’s Temple, Ho Quoc Pagoda or Coconut Prison depending on interest
- Khem Beach or Sao Beach in the afternoon
- squid fishing tour in the evening
Squid fishing is a fun experience because you can enjoy time on the water and eat the fresh catch on board if conditions are good.
Day 4: Safari, VinWonders and Grand World
- morning Safari
- lunch
- VinWonders for rides, aquarium and indoor attractions
- evening show if timing fits
- Grand World for dinner or a walk
- return to hotel
Day 5: relax and airport transfer
- free time at hotel
- breakfast, packing and checkout
- airport transfer
If fishing is important to you, message me before booking the rest of the plan. I can suggest whether fishing, squid fishing or a different sea experience fits your dates better.

Should you split hotels during a 5-day trip?
Usually, I do not recommend changing hotels just to cover more of the island.
It looks efficient on paper, but it costs time: packing, checkout, waiting, transfer and check-in. For families, one good base plus private day routes is usually easier.
Splitting hotels can make sense only if:
- you really want both north resort time and south island atmosphere
- you stay at least 2 nights in each area
- your group does not mind moving luggage
If you are travelling with young children, I would usually keep one base.
What about Ong Lang?
Ong Lang is not central Phu Quoc. It is a quieter west/north-leaning beach area.
For five days, Ong Lang can work well if you want a calm beach base and are comfortable using transport for dinners, tours and shows.
From Ong Lang, north island is easier than from the south, but Sunset Town and the 4 island tour still require a longer drive.
A simple Ong Lang rhythm:
Day 1: arrival, Ong Lang beach and sunset dinner
Day 2: 4 island tour, snorkeling and Cable Car
Day 3: Starfish Beach, Safari or Grand World
Day 4: Sunset Town, Khem Beach, Sao Beach or south island exploring
Day 5: slow beach morning and airport transfer
What to book ahead
For a 5-day trip, I would book these ahead:
- airport pickup if you arrive with luggage or children
- 4 island tour or private speedboat if snorkeling matters
- Cable Car and Aquatopia tickets if you want an easier day
- Safari and VinWonders tickets for family days
- private driver for north-south routes
- fishing or squid fishing if this is important to you
The smaller food, cafe and beach plans can stay flexible.
Local planning rule from Vu
Do not try to complete Phu Quoc. Five days is enough for a great trip, but only if the route is realistic.
The best itinerary is not the one with the most stops. It is the one that fits your hotel, your group and your energy.
If you send me your hotel name, travel dates, group size and must-do activities on WhatsApp, I can suggest a realistic route and tell you what I would skip.

What is the best 5-day itinerary if I stay in north Phu Quoc?
Day 1 resort and Grand World. Day 2 VinWonders. Day 3 Starfish Beach, basket boat and Safari. Day 4 snorkeling or 4 island trip with Cable Car and Sunset Town, or Cable Car, Aquatopia and fireworks if your children are too young for snorkeling. Day 5 relax and airport transfer.
What is the best 5-day itinerary if I stay central or south?
Day 1 arrival and Sunset Town. Day 2 snorkeling, Cable Car and water park. Day 3 Starfish Beach and east/south island exploring. Day 4 Safari, VinWonders and Grand World. Day 5 The Peak, coffee view and airport transfer.
Can I add squid fishing to a 5-day itinerary?
Yes. Squid fishing can be added as an evening experience, usually on a day that does not already end with a very late show. Message me with your dates and hotel area so I can place it properly.
Should I stay in one hotel or split hotels?
For most families, one hotel is easier. Splitting hotels can work if you really want both north resort time and south island atmosphere, but it adds packing and check-in time.
